Ontario safety checks for Ajax & Durham
Need a used-vehicle safety standards certificate, or a once-over before a family trip? Guss's Auto in Ajax inspects to Ontario's safety standard — a short drive from Pickering, Whitby, Oshawa, and east Scarborough. We fail what is unsafe, pass what meets the standard, and explain the difference. 415 MacKenzie Ave, Unit i. Book online or call (647) 292-6842.
What to expect
- What it is
- An Ontario Safety Standard Certificate inspection of required items (brakes, steering, suspension, lights, tires, glass, and more) against the provincial standard.
- When you need it
- Typically when transferring a used vehicle, or when you want a documented inspection before a long trip or a new driver in the family.
- If something fails
- We show you the item and the standard. You decide whether we repair it here. No work proceeds without your OK.
- Official rules
- Requirements are set by the Ontario Ministry of Transportation, not by the shop.
Independent shop vs dealership
| Guss's Auto | Typical dealer | |
|---|---|---|

Common questions
Is a safety check the same as an oil change?
No. A safety inspection is a pass/fail against Ontario's standard. An oil change is maintenance. We can do both in one visit if you book it that way.
Do you guarantee a pass?
No shop can. The vehicle either meets the standard or it does not. We will not pass an unsafe item.
Official rules: Ontario Safety Standards Certificate (MTO)
